Lewis R. "Lew" Allendorph, 94, of Fort Wayne passed away on the morning of March 11, 2022. Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Great Uncle and Friend. He was married to Anna Lee (Smith) for almost 73 years, she survives; his daughter, Sharon Roberts of Fort Wayne; his son, L. David (Linda L. (Allen)) Allendorph of West Lafayette; his grandson, Lucas M. Allendorph of Indianapolis; along with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Lew loved his family and friends and was most happy when they were all together. From late night card games to Sunday-school parties and family reunions, his community was most cherished to him. Lewis was a graduate of South Side High School and later served in the U.S. Navy. He later went on to earn two degrees from Purdue University. He worked as a mechanical Engineer at General Electric in Fort Wayne, designing electric motors and then took a job as Chief Engineer at Hubbard Spool Company in Garret, Indiana. He spent most of his career as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue, Fort Wayne, and retired in 1992 as the Assistant Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology there. Lew was dedicated and detail oriented. He loved Engineering but he loved his students more. He painstakingly looked over final projects every semester and took phone calls from students discussing projects and made sure he was in his office during office hours. He was always willing to help and was a natural teacher. That same trait was visible at home too. Helping with homework, personal projects, tasks around the house; doing what ever was needed. He encouraged us, loved us, taught us and built his world around his family. He was never too busy to be a husband and father and made sure we all knew we were a priority. His love was unconditional. He was a partner in life and was always supportive. He was logical and analytical but had a big heart that tempered his pragmatism. As a founding member of Faith Baptist Church on Trier Road, he was involved in the building committee, the Pastoral search committee, the board of deacons, finance committee, Dare to Care, and anything else where help was needed. He loved to sing the old hymns and looked forward to every opportunity to worship Jesus. He was a daily Bible reader and started every morning in the Word. His life and the legacy he leaves behind were an act of worship: A great example of what it means to be a Christian. He is now reunited with those who went before and is in the sweet presence of his Savior. We are celebrating that fact and all look forward to joining him in the future! A funeral service is 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Faith Baptist Church, 6600 Trier Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne.
