

LILLIAN GRACE (WATTS) GARRETT, 91, formerly of Hunter town, passed away quietly on Monday, June 19, 2017. Lilly, as most knew her, the youngest of seven sisters, was born in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to Thomas and Grace Watts. She was a gardener and loved all things outdoors, an accomplished seamstress, needlepoint crafter, and genealogist, having traced her mother's family for eleven generations. She loved birds, music, children, friends and family. She left nursing school when World War II began and moved to Denver, where she spent some time at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal to help the war effort. She moved to Fort Wayne to work at Farnsworth Television, and later at the Fort Wayne State Hospital. After marrying Gene Garrett in 1955 (he preceded her in death in 2003), she spent 20 years as a customer service representative at Lincoln Life before retiring in 1981. She is survived by her children, Brenda Kegg of Fort Wayne, Leon (Debra) Garrett of Wolcottville, and John Garrett of Boston, Mass.; four grandchildren, Christopher Stumphy of Bremen, Germany, Nicki (Mike Steed) McVoy of Long Beach, Calif., Cory (Katina) Garrett of Wolcottville, and Jamie (April) Garrett of Antwerp, Ohio; and five great-grandchildren, Gene, Izik, Shaylee, Marcus and Breanna. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Taylor Chapel UMC, 10145 Maysville Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Burial at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
