

Lois Jean ( nee Lunz) Schumacher of Fort Wayne asleep in Jesus, August 3, 2024 at the age of 95. She was born in Fort Wayne. Lois was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church for 68 years. She was baptized into the Body of Christ on March 10, 1929 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She was confirmed (Psalm 86:11) in the Christian faith according to the Lutheran confessions April 18, 1943 and married Vernon June 24, 1951 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Her devout faith, kindness to all, and good humor and optimism were inspiring. She quietly served the Lord with her everyday actions. Her willingness to listen, say a kind word to strangers, and her ability to laugh were evidence that she enjoyed the simple pleasures of daily life. She had several callings in life, beginning when she completed teacher training at Concordia Teacher’s College River Forest, Illinois. She taught elementary school in Defiance and Cleveland, Ohio and then taught in Fort Wayne. She raised four successful children ensuring they all received Lutheran education through high school. Later, she served as nanny to several families always having a heart to nurture and train young children. She traveled with Vernon towing a pop-up camper and was proud of the fact they had visited all 50 states. Lois was pre-deceased by her dear husband Vernon and sons Michael and Jeffrey Schumacher and brother Robert and Georgette Lunz. She is survived by her son Kevin and Jane (Hartmann) Schumacher of Saint Louis, Missouri and her daughter Pamela (Schumacher) and Mark Nenow of Parkersburg, West Virginia and her sister Marianne Merrow of Lady Lake, Florida. Lois is also remembered tenderly by her ten grandchildren, Robert & Eliana Schumacher, Shelby (Schumacher) & Nick Anderson, Kelly (Schumacher) & David Uffenbeck, Katie (Schumacher) & Kevin Heckman, Ashley (Schumacher) & Pedro Palomino, Joseph & Grace Nenow, Rebecca Nenow, Andrew Nenow, Holly & James Cain, and Jennifer Schumacher as well as six great grandchildren. A service celebrating God’s grace and blessings in her life and entrance into the Church triumphant will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 17th at Concordia Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends in the narthex at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Concordia Cemetery Gardens. A luncheon will be served at Concordia at noon.
