Marilyn J. Berning

Marilyn J. Berning, age 94, died on October 13, 2024 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born in Fort Wayne on February 9, 1930 to Ray and Bertha Doerfler. She was a lifetime member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church and graduated from North Side High School. Throughout her life, Marilyn gave her time and talents to a variety of organizations to include, Christmas Bureau, Girl Scout Leader, Saint Paul’s Ladies Aid, Concordia Thrift Shop, Saint Paul’s Church/School Office and the Red Hats. She is survived by her children, Dan Berning, Sharon (Terry) Hudson, Jim (Elaine) Berning, Patricia Trier; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Andy) Longbrake, Michael Trier, Heather (Bishop) Brown, John (Kelly) Hudson, Monica Berning, Janelle Berning, Jackie (Leean) Justice, Matthew (Lexi) Berning; 10 great grandchildren, Sean, Elizabeth and Melissa Longbrake; Adelyn, Abe, and Arya Brown; Lillian and Gracelyn Hudson; Max Berning and Andi Justice. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lee in 2002; mom and dad, Ray and Bertha Doerfler; brother, Richard Doerfler and his wife Doris; sister, Dorothy Schneider and her husband Don; sister, Eileen Weber and her husband Vic. Funeral Services for Marilyn will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, 1126 South Barr Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46802, Reverend Josemon T. Hoem will be officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday, October 21, 2024 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46835 and one hour prior to the service at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Cemetery following the funeral service. Memorial donations may be directed to Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church or Camp Lutherhaven.
