

Marion Janet Groenert, 90, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2014, just two weeks prior to her 91st birthday, at Towne House Retirement Center. Born on December 25, 1923 in Manchester, NH, she was a daughter of the late James and Margaret (Gardner) Hackett. Marion graduated from Central High School in Manchester NH., class of 1940, and began working as a switchboard operator. She met the love of her life, the late Frederick Earl Groenert Sr., on a girl’s trip to Jacksonville Beach, Fl., and was married on Nov 10, 1945. A dedicated Navy wife and world traveler, she visited Australia, Alaska, Scotland and Germany. Marion put her heart into her home and family; she was a wonderful homemaker, mother and grandmother. She also worked part-time retail at LS Ayres and was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the Noon Time Diners. She will be greatly missed by so many. She is survived by her children, Frederick E. (Geri) Groenert Jr. of West Lafayette, Ind., Diane Allen Groenert of Fort Wayne, and Janet Scott Groenert of St. Paul, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Frederick E. “Fritz” Groenert III and Brandon A. Groenert, both from Virginia, and Camille Marion Wormley of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one great-granddaughter, Gabriella; and her sister, Barbara J. (William) Bovaird of Manchester, NH. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James “Jimmy” Hackett. Funeral Service will be on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 2:00pm at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior; Pastor Doug Croucher officiating. Calling will also be on Sunday, December 14, 2014 from 2-4pm at the funeral home. Burial at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Heartland Hospice.
