Mary worked as a custodian for Northern Wells Community Schools for many years before her retirement. She was also a member of Cruiser Club USA. Mary more than anything loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed playing games and doing puzzles. Mary also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert "Bob" VanScoder; children, Joe (Julie) VanScoder and Angie VanScoder; grandchildren, Kari VanScoder, Meggan VanScoder, John Stiles, Dalton Smith, Nicholas VanScoder, Noah Noble, and Eli Noble; great-grandchildren, Lucy Nickles, Margaret Wurth, Phoenix Montgomery, Sirius Montgomery, Ares VanScoder, and Elijah VanScoder; and sister, Kathy Davis.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer VanScoder; daughter-in-law, Tracey VanScoder; and siblings, Dana, Bobby, Gary, Richard, Penny, and Kitty.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46835, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Family and friends may also gather for visitation on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Scipio Cemetery in Harlan, Indiana.
