

Maureen (Scotty) Calder Toenges, 87, of Fort Wayne, passed away on February 20, 2018. Maureen was born on July 25, 1930, to the late Hugh Ross and Jane Anne (MacKenzie) Calder of Fort Wayne. After graduating from South Side High School, Maureen met the love of her life, Fred Toenges, who survives her. They were married on Christmas day in 1951 and had 67 wonderful years together. She is survived by her four children: Sons, Buck (Julianne) and Ross (Angela) Toenges of Fort Wayne, daughters, Heather (David) Hime of Centerville, OH., Holly (Dan) Messerall of Croton, OH., 11 grandchildren: Anna (Dan) Sheperd, Alex Gentile, Andrew Hime, April (Jared) Ratliff, William, Ben, Christopher, Kate, Max, Muriel, and Nari Toenges and 1 great grandchild, Calder Gentile. Maureen will be missed by all who knew her. She was an artist who could also design and sew clothes, upholster furniture, repair appliances and cars, fit shoes, and still get home in time to whip up a gourmet meal! She was a Girl Scout leader, an art teacher at the YWCA and volunteered for many organizations around Fort Wayne and Diamond Head, Mississippi. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and often included the Highlands in her and Fred’s numerous adventures abroad.
Viewing will be on Friday, February 23rd from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 at Hockemeyer Miller Funeral Home 6131 Saint Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN and services at the funeral home on Saturday, February 24th at 11:00 am with viewing an hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Our Hope Lutheran (Huntertown) or the Allen County SPCA
