Obituary of Phyllis Stumpf
Phyllis Stumpf, 91, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. Born in Akron, OH, to L. C. and Helen Peterson; she was raised in Akron, OH, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Indianapolis, IN. She graduated from Shortridge High School and Methodist School of Nursing in Indianapolis. Phyllis worked as a Registered Nurse at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne area hospitals. She gave years of service in the community as a Girl Scout leader, founding member of the New Haven Women’s Club, NH Conservation Club member, and full-time mom. She made her home in New Haven, IN, where she and her husband, Ed, raised their six children. She loved nature, wild flowers and animals, and volunteered as a nature guide at Fox Island. She shared her love for nature by creating fun, educational adventures for the Girl Scouts. Her Girl Scouts travelled widely, including trips to Gatlinburg, TN; Savannah, GA; and Europe. Phyllis was a lifelong volunteer who served in various roles at TowneHouse Retirement Community including Study Connection Volunteer Coordinator, Vintage Girl Scout leader, Tone Chimes member, and member of several committees. She is survived by her six children, Margaret “Peggy” Stumpf of Columbus, OH; Susan (Philip) Stumpf Zuckerman of Eldred, N Y; Terry Stumpf of Ft. Wayne; Maribeth “Buffie” Stumpf of Sparks, NV; Ed Stumpf II of Honolulu, HI; and Jeffrey (Barb) Stumpf of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Hannah and Zoe Zuckerman; Andrew and Kevin Stumpf; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Edwin E. Stumpf; her parents Pete and Helen Peterson; and her sister Dolores Peterson Wiese. Friends and family are welcome to share anecdotes at the celebration of Phyllis’ life which will be held from 2-4 PM Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the TowneHouse Retirement Community, 2209 St. Joe Center Road, Fort Wayne.
