Richard L. Shearer

RICHARD L. SHEARER, 88, of Fort Wayne, died on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Kingston at Dupont. He was born on April 29, 1924, in Van Wert, Ohio. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ. He served in the Marines during World War II the Pacific Theater He retired in 1990 as owner of Shearer's Styling, in Riviera Shopping Center and had been a barber / stylist for over 54 years. Surviving are his son, Dennis L. Shearer of Fort Wayne; daughters, Janet A. Shearer and Penny (John) Wood, both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Shawn (Kari) Shearer, Carey (Jeff) King, Dana (Cody) Statler, Haley (Ben) Heath, and Kelly (Garrett) Wiejak; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Melba Stonebrunner-Shearer, in 2007; and sister, Elma Jean Pelz. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Calling also from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the church or Lifetime Sports Academy.

She has always spoke so highly of Dick and told so many wonderful stories with me about him that I felt like I knew him and sounds like he was a wonderful man.
