Robert L. Smith

Robert L. “Smitty” Smith, 81, of Fort Wayne, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at Parkview Hospital. Born in Hurst, Ill., he retired from Zollner Corp. after 35 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 47 and the VFW 1301. Surviving are his wife, Shirley R.; children, Robert L. Smith, Jr. of Ogden Dunes, Ind., Sherry Lengacher of Leo and David P. (Bekki) Smith of Pine Flates, Tenn; stepson, Robert (Barbara) Weick of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, William Floyd (Ruth Ann) Smith of Johnston City, Ill.; and sister, Shirley Davis of Marion, Ill. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth V.; sister, Irene Calvert; and brothers-in-law, Jack Calvert and Jerry Davie. Service is 2 pm Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, Ind. Visitation from 3 pm to 7 pm Sunday, Dec 26, 2010 at the funeral home. Entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens.
