

Walter A. Wood, 82, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Woodview Healthcare Center. Born on November 9, 1932 on a farm near Delmar, Iowa, he was the eldest child of the late Walter and Wylma (Whitenack) Wood. He graduated from Delmar H.S. in 1951 and married Helen Amend in December of that year. Walter proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. He earned an Associate degree from ITT Technical Institute in 1974 and retired after 15 years of employment with ITT. He then served for several years as a dedicated bus driver for F.W.C.S. Walter was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. Walter is survived by his wife, Helen of Fort Wayne; daughter, Sonja (Rich) Gingery of Fort Wayne; sons, Walter III (Susan) of Bloomington, Ind., Kevin (Marlene) of Woodburn, Ind., and Glenn (Julie) of Leo, Ind.; adopted son, John Amend of Fort Wayne; siblings, Linda (Boothby) (Robert) Puckett of Goose Lake, IA., Lucinda (Garry) Jorgensen of Bellevue, IA., Rita (Huilman) (Don) Schmidt of Dewitt, IA., Loras (Sara) Huilman of Cedar Rapids, IA., brother-in-law, John Sawvell of Clinton, IA., and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Theodore Huilman; brothers, Charles Wood and Teddy Joe Huilman; sisters, Kathy (Huilman) Sawvell and infant Carolyn Huilman. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 2:00pm at Bethany United Methodist Church, 7715 Sunny Lane, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 4-8pm at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Burial at Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett, Ind.
