Fuaileleo F. Seá
August 27, 1937 – January 7, 2021
Today we celebrate the memories of our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to all. Fuaileleo Fagava’a Sea was born on August 27, 1937 to the late Ale Sea Filoialii and Taumalatou Filoialii of Ta’u Manu’a. He is the second oldest to his fourteen siblings. And so, began the journey of Fuaileleo through life. He graduated from Papatea School in Ta’u, Manua in 1953 and continued his education in Vocational School in Pago Pago, American Samoa. Fuaileleo returned home to help his parents, siblings, his family and the community until the end of his service.
Fuaileleo met the love of his life, Vainiu Tialigo of Ta’u. They were married on the 25th of Sept. 1965 in Ta’u Manu’a in the Malamalama o le Lalolagi chapel. Coming from a meager family, Fuaileleo built a solid foundation. He was a self-taught carpenter and enjoyed working on his plantation. He was a hardworking father who raised ten children, that brought forth twenty-nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Fuaileleo was employed in the Dept. of Education as a maintenance groundskeeper, where he served dutifully for thirty years before retiring in 1996. He was also employed in the Dept. of Criminal Justice for four years and one year working with TAOA in American Samoa.
Fuaileleo served his village and the Congregational Christian Church diligently for more than 40 years. On June, 1979, the late Rev. Elder Panapa ordained Fuaileleo as a a’oa’o fesoasoani. Fuaileleo served as a pianist, a teacher and a secretary for the Sunday School. He was also a teacher for the Aoga Samoa for class 7 and 8. Fuaileleo also served for a short period of time in Ma’amaa, Nuuuli and Matu’u and Faganeanea. Fuaileleo fulfilled his church callings and responsibilities when called upon without hesitant.
Fuaileleo was a member of the untitled men (aumaga) in the village of Ta’u. He served alongside his father for more than 30 years. In 1986, he was bestowed his orator matai title, “Fuaileleo” by the late, Fiti P. Sunia Sr. Fuaileleo; stands for council through wise words. (“e fua i le leo”).
Fuaileleo F. Sea was truly blessed. In his leisure time, he enjoys reading the Word of God; bible. A God-fearing man and a friend to all. He is such a humble person who takes everything with a smile. A man filled with a sense of humor, loves to entertain and tell jokes when he is given the opportunity.
Fuaileleos cheerful attitude and radiant smile will be missed. He will always be remembered for his charming spirit, acts of kindness, generosity and especially his love for his family, extended family, friends, foreigners and most importantly his duty to God. Fuaileleo will put a smile on peoples’ faces and a memory of a lifetime. One of his favorite quotes, by Robert Luis Stevenson…
“Under the wide and starry sky, dig the grave and let die. Glad did I live and gladly die, And I laid me down with a will. This be the verse you grave for me: Here he lies where he longed to be, Home is the sailor, home from the sea, And the hunter home from the hill.”
Fuaileleo Fagava’a Sea spent his entire life in Ta’u, Manu’a serving God, his family and the community. He left home on August, 2015 to seek medical treatment here in the United States. On the evening of January 6, 2021, Fagava’a F. Sea departed this life in Fort Carson, CO to be with his Heavenly Father. He is survived by his wife, Vainiu Sea, nine children, twenty-nine grandchildren, eleven great-grand-children, five sisters, four brothers, nieces, nephews and cousins. His legacy will live on forever through his works and deeds, his positiveness, humility and his service to his fellow men and his faithfulness to God. Fuaileleo F. Sea has richly blessed our lives for 83 years. Your memory and
legacy/will always be treasured within our hearts until we meet again! He will forever be missed, but he will not be forgotten.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
“A ia outou mua’i saili lona malo, ma lana amiotonu, ona faaopoopoina atu lea o ia mea uma ia te outou.”
