Jose Morales Lugo
April 19, 1932 – February 2, 2019
Jose Morales Lugo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2019 in Colorado Springs, CO. He was born in Lajas, Puerto Rico, April 19, 1932, the third of nine children born to the Jose Morales and Carmen Zoela Pabon.
Jose proudly served thirty-one years in the US Army, where he started as a Private and retired as Sergeant Major in 1982. He served in the Korean War and completed two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He was a highly decorated soldier, whose awards included the Combat Infantry Badge, the Army Commendation Medal, the Jungle Training Expert Badge, two Purple Hearts, and the Bronze Star.
After retiring from the US Military, Jose worked hard as a Laundry Technician at Memorial Hospital for twenty years. In his life and in his retirement, Jose enjoyed spending time with his family, attending his church, shooting pool, winning at ping pong, and traveling to visit family in Puerto Rico and Ecuador. He made everyone around him laugh, inspired them, and shared his wisdom. He leaves behind his wonderful wife, Maria Luisa; loving children Carmen, Esther, Glenn, Juan, Alex, Rosita, Patti, and Eric; his grandchildren, Victor, Hans, Morgan, Regan, Sydney, Thais, Gwyneth, Rafael, Carrie, Alyssa, Samantha, Ethan, Sydney, and Evan; as well as a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends. The wake will take place Thursday, February 7, 2019, from 5:00-8:00 p.m., at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 S U.S. Highway 85-87, Fountain, CO. A service to celebrate his life is scheduled for Friday, February 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary. The burial will also take place on Friday the 8th at 1:00 p.m. at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, CO. A reception will follow the service and burial at Dove-Witt.
