Joyce L. Wright

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Joyce Louise Long Wright, who went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, CO, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born February 22, 1951, to Lewis and Patsy Long, in Lawton, OK, Joyce spent her formative years in Sylmar, CA, where she met and fell in love with her devoted husband, Dan Wright, in junior high school. The couple was wed in their early teens, and Joyce became a traveling Army wife and a mother of four boys by the age of 20. Throughout her 75 years, her life was rooted in faith, family and service.

The defining moment of Joyce’s life occurred at the tender age of eight years old when she gave her heart to the Lord during Vacation Bible School at a neighborhood church. Although Joyce was raised in a non-churchgoing home, her faith never waivered and her steadfast devotion was the seed from which her own family’s abiding belief in God grew strong. With her encouragement and support, Dan and their four sons all came to accept the Lord Jesus, culminating in a joyous celebration in October 1980 when the entire family was baptized together. Joyce’s greatest pleasure in life was watching them mature spiritually and walk in the truth of God’s word. Her sons all married women of faith and each one of her grandchildren share her love and commitment to Jesus Christ.

To the very end, Joyce remained humbled and amazed by how God used one faithful young girl to eternally transform generations of her family. Her testimony and legacy will be the cornerstones that keep our faith anchored and enduring in the years to come. We will forever carry in our hearts the lessons and the traditions she taught us. While she will be greatly missed, she will never be forgotten.

Joyce is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Dan Wright, Sr.; her sons Daniel (Tammy), Michael (Donna), Tim (Shelly) and Matthew (Tami); grandchildren Michael (Alisha) Wright, Jr., Kristi (Jordan) McMillin, Ashleigh (Charles) Haas, Daniel L. Wright, Kaitlyn Wright, Nicholas Wright, Madison Wright, Matthew Wright, Jr., Elijah Wright, Gabriel Wright and Samuel Wright; great grandchildren Remy and Carter Wright and soon-to-be-born Isabelle Haas. Also surviving are her sisters Jackie (Ed) McAlister, Patricia Long and nephew Michael McAlister.

Joyce is predeceased by her parents, Lewis and Patsy (Horner) Long; her grandchild Christopher Wright; and siblings Janet Long, Janice Long, Warren Long and Kevin Long.

A public memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at her home church, Pikes Peak Park Baptist Church, in Colorado Springs, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the church in her honor.
