Maxine was born April 1, 1931 to Albert and Jessie Jurjens of Farnam, NE. The autumn after Maxine graduated high school in Gothenburg, NE, she left for Riverside, CA to marry Gustave Mundt who was then stationed at March Air Force Base. They moved about the country with the Air Force for several years before settling in Colorado Springs.
Maxine is survived by five of her six children: Susan Gegan (John), Anna Witt (Tom), Judith-Angel Baker (Steven), Joel Mundt (Leona), and Amanda Mundt, 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are Maxine’s four siblings: Leona Taylor, Leota Fogg, Ruth Perry, and Darrell (Vicki) Stull. Preceding her in death are her husband of 61 years, Gustave Mundt, son Gustave Mundt, Jr., grandsons Eli Baker and Maxwell Mundt, and sister-friend Wilhelmina Marshall.
John 15:13 says “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” That sums up Maxine’s kind of love; anyone who knew her was touched by it. After 93 beautiful years, Maxine has moved to her heavenly home, undoubtedly greeted with a wheelbarrow full of crowns to cast at her Savior’s feet!
