Michael Paul Schermann, “Grampa Mike,” was born in Detroit, Michigan, on October 20, 1954, and died January 3, 2012 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, of heart disease. He was 57 yrs, 2 month, 14 days old.
Survived by his loving wife, Eileen Goodwin Schermann, his children: Michael Paul (Sarah) Schermann, II, Jerry (Jamie) Honaker, Jaylene (Shawn) Bennett, Manzanita & Seth DeAlba; grand children: Vanessa, Samantha & Eathen Schermann; Hayleigh, Noah, Abby, Reagan and Natalie Honaker; Dylan, Quentin, Emily, Michael, & Naomie Bennett.
He is also survived by brothers Gil Schermann, Bob Schermann, Danny Johnson, Mickey (Michele) Johnson; sisters Teri Goodall, Marjorie Rose, Diane Schermann, Jeanette Schermann (Bernie Arneson), Julie (Tommy) Willis & Judy (Joel) Allard; a plethora of nieces, nephews, extended family, chosen family & friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tisha Dee Schermann, brother Tommy Johnson, his parents, Gib Schermann and Theresamary Johnson and his grandparents.
Mike was an excellent mechanic, a proficient auto body repairman, carpenter, plumber, electrician and could fix almost anything. He managed an auto salvage yard and as of late, rang a bell during the holidays for the Salvation Army for the last two seasons. He was a hard worker and enjoyed his jobs. Mike’s life spanned from Michigan to Minnesota to California to Idaho to South Dakota and to Colorado. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved the mountains.
Mike was a surly old bridge troll with a zest for life and a determination to have fun. He touched many lives with his joy of life & loved to go to festivals and celebrations. He was known as the grumpy ol’ curmudgeon within the congregation at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Leadville. He was currently an active member of St. Raphael’s Parish.
Mike will be remembered for his love of life, his witty and sometimes odd sense of humor, and will be sadly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held for Mike on Saturday January 7th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Raphael Episcopal Church at 802 Leta Dr. in Security, CO.
