Myrle was born on February 16, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas, to Donald and Genean (Smith) Hixon. He was the oldest of four children. Myrle’s father was in the Air Force, and the family moved from San Antonio first to Reno, Nevada, then to Moses Lake, Washington and to the Bermuda Islands. While in Bermuda Myrle learned to fish and also scuba dive. In 1962, the family moved to Vacaville, California where they settled for many years.
Myrle ran track while in high school and loved playing chess as well as doing jigsaw puzzles with his mom and sister sometimes hiding the last piece so he could “finish” the puzzle.
After high school Myrle joined the U.S. Army and after boot camp in Fort Ord, California he was sent to Germany where he stayed until his honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1974. Upon his return home, he became a rigger, as a civilian, for the U.S. Navy at Mare Island. On March 23, 1978, Myrle sustained an injury at work and became partially paralyzed. He was able to live on his own until the Spring of 2001 when he began to live with his youngest brother, Dale Hixon, and his family in Vacaville, California, moving to Colorado in 2005, where he remained until his death. Myrle was an avid Denver Broncos fan. He enjoyed collecting many different things, including model cars and coins. He also enjoyed watching old movies. Despite his physical limitations, Myrle had a great sense of humor and a sharp mind.
Myrle is survived by his son Joseph Papin and his granddaughter Tesla Papin. He is also survived by his sister Constance (Rick) Davis, brothers Cameron (Christine) Hixon and Dale (Sheila) Hixon, as well as many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, uncles, and his best friend Earl Jones.
A private memorial service will be held, with burial at a later date in Lewis, Colorado near his beloved grandmother.
