And departed this life April 17, 2015.
Nellie was born at home at Drennan to Edward Robert & Mildred (Enoch) Sinclair. She married Fred H. Day on July 27, 1940 in Raton, New Mexico when he spirited her away in an “eloption”! He preceded her in death August 1, 2006.
She worked outside their home as a cook at Hanover School and loved every kid she served. She raised chickens, white toy poodles, had a garden the size of “Texas” and while raising their six kids, worked the farm driving a tractor and milking cows.
Nellie still made time for fun as she loved to quilt, go to the Calhan Auction where she loved the miscellaneous sale. She would buy boxes, sort through the treasures, and return the rest the next week to sell. She loved taking the grandkids there and they would pick up cow feed from CO-OP. She went everywhere FAST and FURIOUS. For many years boots hung on fence posts along “boot hill” on Peyton Highway where she had placed them just for fun.
Nellie was a volunteer for the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department from 1976-2001. And Honor Member from 2001-2015.
She loved to listen to Fred play the harmonica and organ. Her grandkids later delighted her by playing and singing to her.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Day, two brothers, George Sinclair and Charles Sinclair. Nellie is survived by one sister, Annie Sinclair Finney of Canon City and five children: James Day (Neta) of Hanover, Frances Reble (Lawrence) of Hanover, Winfred Day (Sharon) of Meeker, Jerry Day (Mary) of Colorado Springs, and Patricia Sessa (Don) of Hanover. She had 18 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 11:00 am at Chico Basin Cemetery, 19650 Powers Rd, (corner of Powers Rd & Peyton Hwy) with a full Firefighter Burial. There will be a potluck lunch with meat and drinks provided at Hanover Fire station 2, 13325 Old Pueblo Rd, south of Fountain.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department or to Pikes Peak Hospice.
