Pennie Lee Gale was born Pennie Lee Okeley on June 20, 1953 in Kalamazoo Michigan. She grew up on Eagle Lake and would often be found running around barefoot as she loved to be on or around the water. She attended Mattawan High School where she was a cheerleader, played clarinet in the band, and was a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated in 1971. Pennie married the love of her life, Walter Gale, on June 29, 1974. Walter and Pennie joined the Air Force together in 1976 where they were stationed in Wyoming and Korea. Pennie was discharged from the Air Force in 1981 and their daughter, Shawna, was born a year later in 1982. In 1987, Pennie and her family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and in 1989 she went to work for the United States Postal Service where she worked in various positions until she retired in 2018. Pennie deeply loved her family and spending as much time with them as she could. Her infectious smile and warmth would light up the room as soon as she walked in. She could often be found attending her daughter’s sporting and school events. Pennie’s family grew with the birth of her granddaughter, Carolynn, in 2001 and her grandson, Logan, in 2005. She loved to spoil her grandkids and attended as many of their school and sporting events as she could. She spent many weekends at various tournaments and band concerts. She was also adventurous and loved to travel with her husband. She spent every holiday with her family teaching them old traditions and making new ones. She loved to play games, watch movies, and tend to her beautiful flower gardens. Pennie taught her family the value of unconditional love and strength and she will be missed every day. Pennie is survived by her husband, Walter, daughter Shawna (Jeremiah) Dail, granddaughter Carolynn Dail, grandson Logan Dail, brother Paul (Debbie) Okeley, niece Jennifer (Jason) Wray, niece Nicole (Brant) Schweigert, nephew Bradley (Erica) Okeley, and three grandnieces and two grandnephews. Services will be private for family only.
