Ricky (Rick) Lee Higgins, beloved husband, father and Papa passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on March 3, 2022 in Colorado Springs, CO. He was born in Frederick, Maryland on August 6, 1959, the eldest of three children born to the late Leon & Shirley Higgins.
Rick graduated from Widefield High School in 1978. He was employed by Schlage Lock, Harrison School District, Homeward Bound and owned a lawn care business. In 1982 Rick married the love of his life, Renee (Sellers) Higgins, whom he nicknamed, "Humminbird." They settled in Colorado Springs, CO and started their family. In February of this year they celebrated 40 years of marriage.
Family and friends were extemely important to Rick. He enjoyed playing and coaching sports, the great outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, and had tremendous love for the ocean. Anyone who knew him, knows he was a man of many talents, and lived up to the name "Rick-gyver." At the age of 7, Rick learned how to speak with a Donald Duck voice. It was a unique gift and something he loved to do knowing it would make children smile and bring laughter to all. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. Through the years he sang with the Praise Team, operated the sound system, participated in VBS, and loved bringing messages to life through drama and skits.
He leaves behind to carry on his legacy, devoted wife Renee Higgins and dog Coco; loving daughter Regina (Ricky) Harvey of Colorado Springs, precious granddaughter Makenna (G-Girl) Harvey, granddog Cayenne; talented son Ryan Higgins of Colorado Springs, handsome granddog Wrangler (Poochie); sister Julie Wright of Newport, WA, brother Jeff Higgins of Falcon, CO, their families and Renee's family.
Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 30th, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1712 S. Corona Ave, Colorado Springs, CO.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Rick in a special way may make a Memorial Donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Your wings were ready but our hearts were not. The only scars in Heaven are on the Hands that hold you now.
