Susanna E. Coker passed away peacefully on March 29, 2020, in Colorado Springs, CO, at the age of 88. Susanna was born May 12, 1931, to Francisco and Deluvina (Lujan) Ruybalid in Mogote, CO. She was the youngest of nine siblings.
Susanna completed her early education in local schools and attended high school at McCurdy Mission School in Santa Cruz, NM (Class of ’49). After a year at Indiana Central College and a year at North Central College in IL, Susanna completed her degree at Adams State College in Alamosa, CO.
On June 4, 1954, Susanna married Sgt. Armando Quintana. She followed Armando to his postings in Japan, Germany, and Ft. Carson (CO), teaching in each location. Armando died in February 1965.
A few years later, while Susanna was teaching in Fountain/Ft. Carson School District 8, she was united in marriage to Sgt. James L. Coker on February 8, 1968. James died September 4, 1991. The house they bought in Fountain when first married was still her home.
Susanna loved teaching and spent many years in District 8. After retiring she continued to substitute teach and assist teachers until she was 80. She enjoyed being involved in her local church, First United Methodist Church of Fountain. Susanna also spent many afternoons and evenings cheering on her favorite teams, the Broncos and the Rockies.
Susanna is survived by her brother Ruben and sister-in-law Carol Ruybalid of Central City, NE, and sister in laws, Stella Ruybalid of Concord, CA, Lola Ruybalid of Albuquerque, NM, and Judy Tolliver of Madison, MS, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her spouses, she was preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Deluvina; a sister, Lifeda Bowman; six brothers: Levi, Ben, John, Frank, Tony, and Louis; one niece and five nephews.
On April 7th Susanna was laid to rest with her husband, James, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. A memorial service will be held at a later time.
