Vera Alice Smith

Vera Alice Early Smith, 86, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on October 8, 2026.

Vera was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. To those who loved her, she was known by many names—Mom, Mama, Grandma, Mema, and even “Bumpy Road.” Each name reflected a different chapter of her life and the special place she held in the hearts of her family.

She loved deeply and cared generously, creating a home filled with comfort, good food, laughter, and love. Her family knew they could always find a warm welcome, a listening ear, and a caring heart.

Vera was a ranch lady through and through: strong, hardworking, plainspoken, and honest. She took pride in caring for her family and animals, and she approached life with grit, love, and a willingness to do whatever needed doing.

Vera enjoyed cooking, gardening, and caring for her beautiful flowers. She especially loved large family gatherings, when everyone could come together to share a meal and time with one another. Her home was a place where loved ones could feel cared for and at ease.

She could comfort a child with a song or a book, rock them gently to sleep, and make them feel safe and loved. Vera had a sweet and gentle side, but she also had a strong spirit and a way of speaking honestly from the heart. Her southern accent, warm presence, and one-of-a-kind personality will be remembered with great affection.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lee Smith, and several beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn Lee Faulkinberry, Linda Sue Lambert, Carl Wayne Smith, and Ray Lee Smith, along with their spouses; and a large and loving family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Vera will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, strength, and devotion to her family will remain in their hearts always.

A committal service will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at Fairview Cemetery at Fountain, Fountain, Colorado 80817.
