

William C. Reid Jr., USAF SMSgt (Ret.) went to be with his Lord on March 2, 2014. Bill was born May 18, 1926 in Charlotte, N.C. to William C. Sr. and Mary Margaret (Lee) Reid who are deceased, as is his brother Henry Edward Reid. Bill married Emmy A. Werner (Amy), “the love of his life”, on July 4, 1947 in Wiesbaden, Germany. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, daughter Gloria Woods, son William Jakob, and grandsons Matthew and Nicholas. Bill joined the U.S. Army in 1944 and served in the European Theater Operation during WWII. After WWII, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps Reserve (now the USAF) and was recalled to active duty at the start of the Korean War. Bill gave faithful and conscientious service to his country for 23 years until retiring in 1968.
Bill received numerous decorations, including the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and AF Commendation Medal with Clusters. Following military assignments in New York, Hawaii, Michigan and Europe, he moved his family to Widefield, CO in 1966. After retiring from the military, Bill worked at Peterson AFB Exchange and Bob Penkhus Automotive. He was a long-time active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Security Lions Club, Air Force Sgts. Assoc. and the Retired Enlisted Assoc. Bill volunteered eight years at Petersen AFB pharmacy and El Paso County Parks as a Naturalist Docent. While retired he loved to fish, ride his bicycle, travel with his wife and friends, and spend time with his grandsons. Bill was a loving, dedicated and much beloved husband, Dad, and Grandpa.
Visitation is March 7, 4-6 PM at Dove Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 S. US Hwy. 85/87, Fountain, CO. A memorial service will be Saturday, March 8, at 11 AM Faith Lutheran Church, Security Blvd., Security, CO. Private inurnment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver. Memorial gifts may be made to FLC Building Fund.
