Wray S. Pedro

Wray S. Pedro, 73, passed away on June 25th, 2026, at home in Fountain, Colorado, after a brave journey with Parkinson’s and Dementia. He was born on October 22, 1952 in Carthage, Texas to Samuel Pedro and Laviece (Tilley) Pedro.

Wray graduated from Widefield High School with the class of 1970. He owned and operated Southern Colorado Gutter, Inc. for 40 years from 1973 until his retirement in 2014. He was especially proud of his service to the community on the Security Fire Department for 30 years from 1973 through 2003. Wray was a member of The Scottish Rite of Free Masonry – Colorado Springs/Pueblo since 1984. He was also a member of the Al Kaly Shriners and Ramah No. 0165 Lodge.

Wray was happily married to Susan (Hutton) Pedro on November 11, 2010, whom he lovingly referred to as his “co-pilot in life”. His greatest passion was flying his airplane, “Geraldine”, who they lovingly referred to as his “mistress”. He received his private pilot license in 1984 and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) since 1985. He particularly enjoyed introducing kids and young adults to flying and taking them on “first-time” flights. Wray also developed a fly-in community, SilverWest Estates, in Custer County, CO.

Wray never sat still and enjoyed entertaining people. In his younger days, he was a drummer in a local Country Western Band. He had a beautiful voice and loved to sing karaoke. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends. Wray had a great sense of humor and liked to make people laugh. He had an uncanny way of making you believe that some of his hilarious stories were actually true. Wray also loved to travel and meet new people. He traveled to many countries around the world and visited many states. He spent his past 12 winters in Harlingen, Texas enjoying surf fishing, dancing and attending many other events with his extended family there.

Wray was preceded in death by his father Samuel Pedro, mother Laviece (Tilley) Pedro, and his brother Robert Milton. He is survived by his loving wife Susan Pedro; his daughter Georgianna Howell of Jefferson, TX; his son Charles Pedro (Jessica) of Fountain, CO; his stepson Justin Hutton (Tiana) of Westcliffe, CO; his stepson Ryan Hutton (Ashten) of Westcliffe, CO; his stepdaughters (from a previous marriage) Shanna, Amanda and Michelle; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wray carried a card in his wallet that read, ”Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body. But rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming WOW! WHAT A RIDE!” Mission accomplished!

A memorial service will be held at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 S. US HWY85/87, Fountain, Colorado, on Tuesday, July 7th, 2026 at 10:00am, followed by a Celebration of Life Lunch Reception (11:30am) at Security Fire Department, Station 1, 400 Security Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO.
