She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Roger Marsden; her children, Sandy Gordon (Jerry), Carla Gordon, Jon Gordon (Fernando) and Tammy Bratti.
We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Mom during her years, among them: always work hard, Answer to No One, keep Bailey’s by your chair (for your coffee), always express yourself with the writings on your T-Shirt and mean it when you say “Love you, No shit!”
She is also survived by her brother, Thomas Parker (Becky); and her sister Ruth Primett. These three siblings have a love and a bond like no other.
Stephen Bank once said, “The sibling relationship is life’s longest lasting relationship, longer then our ties to our parents, longer than our relationships with our children, certainly longer than with a spouse, and longer than with a best friend.” They were lucky enough to not only live this, but to feel it every day. They protected, provided, nurtured and cared for each other throughout their whole lives!
Sandy leaves behind her five grandchildren, Kesha Broce (Marty), Jodi Decosta, Amber Bailey, Kayla Bratti (Dallas) and Dominic Bratti; 4 great grandchildren, Kacie Webb-Broce, Angel Dempsey, Chase Broce and David Bailey; and many nieces and nephews.
Nothing lit up Grandma’s face like one of the grandchildren or great grandchildren. She was so proud of all of you!
Although she was born on February 11, 1938, to the late Ethel Flint and Thomas Parker in the beautiful state of Ohio, Sandy grew up believing her birthday was February 18. It wasn’t until her early 60’s that she learned it was actually the 11th. So, as you can imagine, for the last 20 years, Sandy has celebrated two birthdays a year.
She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Parker; her mother, Ethel Headley; her step father, Mick Headley; her oldest sister, Leila Parker; and her great nephew, Joey Perez.
Sandy fought extremely hard this past year against lung cancer. The family would like to thank our friends who stepped in and made it possible for her to be at home. Thank you to Cyndi French and the girls for checking on grandma every day. Thank you to Suzi for always being there when ever G needed you. Thank you Dallas for caring for grandma as if she were your own. Thank you Marty for "never giving up" on grandma. She "loves you so very much!"
Online condolences are appreciated and may be left below.
A visitation will be held from 12:30pm-2:00pm on Saturday February 22, 2020 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. Her funeral service will be at 2:00pm with her burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fredericksburg, VA.
