Al, or “AC” as known by his brother and sisters, was born on June 11th, 1940 in Welch, WV to Woodrow and Bernice (Robinson) Rose. He started at the FBI in 1958, joined the army during the Korean war, and returned to work at the FBI until he retired with 40 years of service and moved to Mineral, VA.
On November 7, 1964, he married Shirley Marie Elliott. They raised two sons, David and Wayne. Upon retiring, they moved to Mineral, VA and raised Justin Moore as their adopted grandson.
AC enjoyed watching the Washington Redskins. His hollering at televised games would often set our Sheltie to barking along with him. He loved talking to family and friends and asked friends of his children to call him dad too. AC enjoyed taking his sons to the local park and fishing out on the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean off the Virginia Peninsula around his wife’s hometown of Townsend, VA. He would take Justin for rides in his prized ’65 Mustang convertible to grab food from Wendy’s and rent movies.
Al worked as a Fingerprint Specialist for the FBI, testifying in cases across the US, and once in Sydney, Australia. He flew to Saipan to testify once; However, the defendant plead guilty before his testimony was needed.
Al was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow, his mother Bernice, and his sisters June Beyers and Betty Boyd.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, his sons David and Wayne, his granddaughter Carol Rose, step grandchildren Sheila Potter, Kelly Rockwell, and James Potter; adopted grandson Justin Moore, his brother Woodrow Jr., his sister Barbara, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on his birthdate, June 11th, 2022 at the Mineral Baptist Church, 51 Louisa AV, Mineral VA 23117. Time TBD.
