

She was born April 25, 1940 and was one of four children born to the late M. Russell Holmes and Anna Frances Clatterbuck Holmes of Catlett, Virginia.
Alice loved children and was a childcare provider for 42 years in the Stafford area until she was diagnosed with cancer. She enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers. Alice enjoyed canning her vegetables. She loved to go shopping and out to lunch (especially Arby’s) with her brother Russ. She enjoyed gospel and country music, especially the First Class Country Band. Alice loved to dance. Having her family close to her was her happiness. She was always willing to give to others. Alice was always thankful to God for her many blessings. Christmas was always her favorite time of the year with having her friends and family celebrating Christmas with her. She especially enjoyed having her yard decorated for the season.
Alice was a member of Ramoth Baptist Church where she joined in December of 2009. She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, cousin, friend and childcare provider.
She was preceded in death by her stillborn son in 1960; husband of 42 years, Sam Hill Carrington; sister Marjorie Anne Holmes Cropp; little brother, M. Russell Holmes Jr.; and brothers-in-law, Robert L. Cropp and Richard K. Jones.
She is survived by her sister, Bessie R. Cropp (Rodger) of Fredericksburg, VA; sister-in-law, Judy A. Holmes of Nokesville, Va; niece, Teresa L. Crump (James) of Stanley, Va; nephew Kenneth Scott Holmes (Chris) of Leesburg, Va; great nephew, Thomas A. Walker Jr. (TJ) of Luray, Va; great niece, Olivia Holmes of Leesburg, Va; double first cousins, Melinda Frazier, (Schoolie) Irene Frazier, and Herbert Holmes (Joyce), and many cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.
She will be missed by all who have ever met her. She was a miracle.
A visitation for Alice will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Ramoth Baptist Church, 478 Ramoth Church Rd, Stafford, Virginia 22554. Her funeral service will occur at 2:30 PM. Interment will follow in Ramoth Baptist Church Cemetery. A reception will follow the interment in the church fellowship hall.
