Born on December 11, 1965, in Durham, North Carolina, Amy was the beloved daughter of the late Daniel Francis and Anne Frances (dePorry) McGrath. She graduated from New Hanover High School in 1983, after which she further pursued her education at UNC Chapel Hill. Following graduation, Amy enjoyed a long and successful career working in rare disease medicine. Her work took her and her team all over the globe and made an impact on the lives of many.
Amy's love for North Carolina ran deep. Though life took her across the country and around the world, she was always happiest when she found her way back home (or at least had the Panthers game on). She treasured family vacations at Lake Norman and Nags Head, spent her weekends exploring Raleigh's vibrant music scene, and found joy in browsing the city's local art galleries. At home, she could be found relaxing in the company of her beloved bernedoodle, Sweet Baby James.
She was predeceased by her parents and her nephew, Jacob McGrath.
Amy is survived by her brother, Kevin McGrath (Barbara); her sister, Molly Tierney (Jordan); and her nieces and nephews: Ryan McGrath (Amy), Daniel McGrath (Sarah) and their children Henry and Charlotte, Andrew McGrath (Rose), Sam McGrath, Nicholas McGrath, Elizabeth McGrath (Kellen), and Delilah Tierney.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the Raleigh Durham area. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Amy's memory to the Penland School of Craft at penland.org.
