

He was born on June 10,1938, born in Moscow, Idaho, son of the late Clay Pickens and Jean Lyons.
Slim proudly served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He lived his life with honor, humility, and an unwavering sense of duty—values forged in military service and carried into every chapter that followed.
After his time in uniform, Slim continued a life of hard work and dedication, retiring from Dominion Power, where he was respected for his steady commitment and quiet pride. He was admired by his coworkers and community alike for his strong work ethic and dependable nature.
To his family, Slim was a steady foundation and a source of quiet strength. A man of few words but deep wisdom, his love was shown through his actions and unwavering support. He led by example, always present and dependable.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia J. Pickens; brothers, Harry Pickens and John Pickens.
He is survived by his daughters, Pauline Wright (Richard), Elizabeth Sutherland (Jeffrey), Carole Bickel (Jason); son, Thomas Pickens; brother, Jimmy Pickens; sister, Irman Jean; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A visitation for Arnold will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Hwy, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401. A funeral service will occur Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM, 1621 Emancipation Hwy, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401 with a burial to follow at 12:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3702 Loren Drive, Fredericksburg, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Slims memory may be made to VFW Post 3103 and National Museum of the United States Army - two causes close to his heart.
Arnold “Slim” Pickens was a soldier, a husband, a father, and a working man who lived with strength and quiet grace. His legacy of love, honor, and humility will remain with us always.
