Catherine Hobbs Powers, 77, of Fredericksburg, VA formerly from Monticello, GA, entered her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 15, 2026. She lived a life defined by love and an unwavering generosity that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma on June 25, 1948, as the daughter of a proud Army family, Cathy spent her early years moving from place to place, including Germany. Her family ultimately settled in Fort Benning, Georgia when she was in the 5th grade.
Cathy was, above all else, a woman of heart. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally, pouring into them a kind of love that was steady, selfless, and enduring. She was fun, silly, and full of life; someone who never lost her youthful spirit. Whether it was through laughter, music, or the simple joy of spending time with her beloved pets and watching all the hummingbirds at the feeders she put up every summer. She was intelligent and had a love for history.
Her compassion extended far beyond her immediate family. Cathy loved both people and animals deeply, and her home was always open to those in need. She gave freely, not because she had to, but because it was simply who she was. Material things never mattered to her. What mattered was connection, kindness, and showing up for others in their time of need.
On January 3, 1997, Cathy gave her life to Christ, a decision that shaped her journey from that day forward. Her faith was quiet but powerful, reflected in the way she lived, loved, and gave to others.
Cathy was also a fighter in every sense of the word. She courageously battled and survived stage 3 breast cancer for 28 years, a testament to her strength, determination, and unbreakable spirit. She faced life’s hardships with grace, including the heartbreaking loss of her brother David in 1986, carrying both her grief and her love with deep resilience.
She found joy and connection in her work family at General Mills, where she built meaningful relationships and left a lasting impact. The friendships she made there were a reflection of her warmth and the genuine care she showed to everyone around her.
Cathy is survived by her children, Kelly Wallis of Monticello, GA and Stacy (Ron) Monson of Fredericksburg, VA and her grandchildren, Morgan (Jonathan) Thomas, Emma Wallis, and Jesse Monson; her brother, John (Jamie) Hobbs of Waverly Hall, Georgia; and her brother-in-law, Robert Falcone of Franklin, Massachusetts. She also leaves behind her unofficially adopted children, Kristen Redditt and Mickey Rioux, along with many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Her lifelong bond with her childhood best friend, Susan Rhodes, remained a treasured part of her life, as did the many special friendships she formed over the years—especially within her General Mills family from where she retired as a lab technician.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jessie and Linda Hobbs of Columbus, GA, brother David Hobbs of San Diego, CA, son-in-law Barry Wallis of GA and her ex-husband Thomas Powers whom she was married to for 48 years.
To know Cathy was to know kindness, strength, and a love that never wavered. She was a woman who gave endlessly, loved deeply, and lived to serve the Lord with her actions. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched, the family she cherished, and the love she leaves behind.
She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
Cathy's Celebration of Life Service will be held on April 25th at 1:00 pm at Faith Tabernacle Church, 631 Ralph Road, SE in Conyers, GA.
