My condolences on  the loss of the very special person Cynthia was. I cherished the many years I enjoyed serving with Cynthia in Lioness & Lions clubs. Cynthia instituted the Poinsettia fundraiser, organized many lunches with friends and many visits to reminisce. 

I wasn’t able to attend her celebration of life service but heard that Matt and Rusty did a fantastic job celebrating their wonderful and loving Mom. Cynthia will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Didn't sleep much last nite.  Thought a lot about Mrs. Wild (Cynthia as she would tell me to call her when I started working at Woodbridge). What a wonderful woman and role model for young ladies. Tough, strong, independent, witty, always caring, and supportive. 
It dawned on me she's the reason everyone called me Ollie. She was the one who encouraged me to attend the University of Tennessee. 
I had no idea back then what a huge presence and positive impact she would have in my life. She was a teacher, mentor, and friend. The young me had no idea how much she would influence the way I would teach and coach. I hope she knew how much I appreciated her presence in my life. I'm glad the last time I saw her, I told her I loved her.

Miss Lake was my PE teacher at Woodbridge High from 1967 to 1969.  I was not the least bit athletic or at all interested in sports, but she was always kind to me and showed true caring about the person I was, although she probably had many an eye roll at my uncoordinated antics.  She taught me to drive as part of driver's Ed class.  Her quiet calm helped me conquer the terror I felt the first time she had me drive on I95.  There are a few teachers you never forget, and Mrs. Wild was one of them for me.  My sincere condolences go to her family and close friends during this difficult time

I know you will miss her, she was really something else!
She was my basketball coach in 9th grade and though I felt she was disappointed in me, it was always a wish that I would get to see her again, and tell her how much of an impression she made on me.

I am very sorry to hear of Cynthia's death. We were suite mates at Catawba for one semester. I remember Cynthia's sense of humor. She enforced rules for everyone in our suite. You were in big trouble if you didn't clean out the bathtub we all used. Cynthia would hunt you now and with force of will make you clean that tub. I haven't seen or heard from her in over 59 years but I remember her well. I'm so glad that she had a good life.

I met Cynthia at Catawba College in the early 1960's. She roomed in another dorm, but she came to Zartman Hall regularly to play bridge. She was an unofficial Zartman girl, which is why we had to hide her in the closet during an after-hours fire drill. By her senior year, she was rooming in Zartman and could legally play in the late-night bridge marathons. She followed the Zartman girls to PWC in 1966, hired by WSHS to teach PE and to coach. We lived in one of the many apartment complexes that housed the influx of young teachers. Cynthia befriended our Radford roommates, the Longwood girls, the family upstairs, the parents of her students. Those became life-long friends. As did the Zartman girls. Through the years , we had many reunions (Myrtle Beach, MT, NC, WVA, VA, NYC), and Cynthia attended every one. She was one of those remarkable true friends: one who loved to get together, loved to hear our stories, and loved to laugh. Rest in peace, dear Cynthia, and condolences to family and all who loved you.

Miss Lake, Mrs Wild & Cynthia.  I knew them all for almost 60 years and it was one of the greatest gifts of my life. She came into my life when my big sister Vic used to come home from softball practice at WSHS in the 60's complaining of how mean Miss Lake was because she used a time out chair on the first base line to discipline the girls. Every day we heard of how horrible Ms Lake was...so of course my Mom had to  invite her over to Thanksgiving Dinner when she found out she didn't have any family in the area...and Vic was furious.  It only took one Thanksgiving dinner for all of us to fall in love with Ms Lake.  She was tough on the outside but had a huge heart and she literally became part of our family.  As a 10 year old I  would buy her expensive jewelery on Christmas every year from high end shops in Marumsco Plaza like GC Murphy's & Peoples Drug Store...and she pretended she loved them all.  She watched me grow up and asked me to start calling her Mrs Wild in school because she was always Cynthia to me. She met her husband Eddie at our house at yet another Thanksgiving Dinner and they created a beautiful family of their own.  She was always looking out for me at WSHS and as I got older she threatened me with bodily harm if I didnt take care of my wife to be, Karen Oliver,  who she adopted as soon as she began teaching at WSHS.  She was at our wedding and she was the first to visit when we had children. She was present at every family function... Thanksgiving, Christmas, Weddings, Birthdays and Funerals. The lady my sister Vic hated that first year in softball became one of her dearest friends for life.  You know you love someone when you hear they have  passed away... and you immediately have tears in your eyes... That's how I know I loved Miss Lake, Mrs Wild & Cynthia.  My deepest condolences to Eddie, Matt & Rusty and all of her Grand Children. We have lost a good one.... Jeff Lutman

My husband and I were so sorry to learn of Cynthia’s passing. I knew her since I began teaching at WSHS IN 1967. We  quickly became friends. She taught all four of my siblings. And, whenever I would see her after retirement, she would ask about them. At the 50 years of WSHS celebration  in 2014, the siblings were all able to  talk with her. 
As a coach and teacher, she had such a positive influence on so many. Prayers for her family and friends. May she forever Rest in Peace.

She was my 10th grade PE Teacher and Driver's Ed teacher in Summer school.  Wouldn't be driving without her!  I enjoyed her class.  My condolences to her family.  I was Class of 1995 at WSHS.

Mrs. Wild was my physical education teacher at Woodbridge Senior High School during my freshman year 1971-72.  I grew to appreciate her style of encouragement for this girl that wasn't athletic in the least. I still think if her with fond memories after all these years. I send sincere condolences to her family and many friends. May warm memories embrace them, too.

I took PE in 88-89 and 90-91 - I think both years with Mrs. Wild.  I was an awkward kid and trying to get on the soccer team which was a significant hurdle in those days.  Emotions were high and I remember that my PE class being heavily grouped with the gifted/signet kids in 10th grade  (I am guessing because of similar demands on the rest of our schedules)  was helpful, and Coach Wild was a person I appreciated talking to.   She had a buddy that she hung out with those years and they were pretty funny.  Rest in Peace Coach Wild.

I am saddened to read this. I had so much respect and love for Mrs. Wild.  I was a”helper”in her PEclass during a free period for a few years back in the late 60’s. Many deep, and not so deep, conversations were had. I have always thought fondly when I think about Mrs. Wild.  To this day, I think of her every time I am on 95and see the exit to Aquia Harbor. Cynthia (Lake) Wild spent her entire teaching and coaching career at Woodbridge Senior High School. She had a positive impact on so many students and athletes over her 33 years there and she was also the Department chair for the Health, PE and Drivers Education Department for Many years. This loss will be mourned by many but we should celebrate the time we had with her and how she made a difference for so many! May our memories of her be a blessing to us always and may Cynthia Rest In Peace!

We first met Miss Lake  in 1966 which was her first year teaching at WSHS. She was our teacher, coach and became our friend. She spent alot of time at our house in Woodbridge which is where she met Eddie Wild.  Cynthia and Eddie became part of the Lutman's extended family for the next 50 plus years. Thanks for being such a big part of our lives. We will miss you and cherish the memories.

There are many things I loved about Cythnia, but what I remember the most is how loyal and dedicated she was to her friends.  

I would watch Cynthia with these women and was amazed at how caring and loving they were to each other, with zero judgement.  No matter what was needed, they all pitched in to support, no questions asked, as they were just happy to be together, working towards a common goal.   Their bond was unbreakable, she would have killed for them and they for her.  And it is because of Cynthia that am I lucky to have those same relationships in my life now.  Cynthia showed me how to be a true friend and the importance of maintaining those relationships, in spite of all the distractions life provides that makes it easy to neglect them.  

I know she will be looking down on her family and her friends and you all can rest assured she still has your back.  She was a force, who will be greatly missed, and I am so thankful that she will continue to live on through my beautiful girls, Ella and Kate.  

Rest easy, Cynthia, you were and are an amazing role model for us all.

Cynthia was one of the best.  She was an amazing Gram , an amazing Mom and most of all an amazing friend.  She was a  person who set her goals and worked very hard to achieve them.  That became more was apparent in how she met some challenges in her later years. Things did not stop her, she continued to support the local athletes, swam and  continued her passion for playing Bridge.
Cynthia and Ed had so many people in their lives,  and seemed to know everyone.
I feel so privileged to have had Cynthia in our lives.  The positive impact she had on our shared Grandchildren is unmeasurable.  I know that Ed, Rusty, Matt and her grandchildren will feel a void with her passing, however will be better  people as a result of knowing her.
