

She was born on June 10, 1939, in Connecticut, the daughter of the late Wilbur Russell and Edith Gonsalve. Dorothy lived a full and meaningful life marked by devotion to her Catholic faith, a deep commitment to her loved ones, and a remarkable gift for bringing beauty into the world.
Dorothy was an award-winning hairstylist whose talent and vision carried her into the world of high fashion. She trained in both the United States and Europe, developing a level of artistry and professionalism that earned her respect throughout the industry. For 20 years, she owned and operated D. Willis International Salon, where she shared her skill, grace, and passion with countless clients and colleagues.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of Robert "Bob" Willis for 69 years. He preceded her in death in April 2025. Together, they built a life rooted in love, devotion, and family. She was a loving mother to Deborah, Robert Jr. and his wife, Salena, and Monique. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Donald; Robert III and his wife, Alicia; Danielle and her wife, Tiffany; Javon and his wife, Asia; and Jeanna. She was a proud great-grandmother to Xavier, Jadalyse, Ty'saan, Lillian, Aelani, Epifanio ("EJ"), Javon Jr., Joy, and Amari. As the oldest of ten children, Dorothy held a special place in her family and set an enduring example of strength, compassion, and resilience.
A devout Catholic, respected community member, and dear friend, Dorothy will be remembered for her elegance, kindness, wisdom, and generous spirit. She touched many lives through her work, her faith, and the love she poured into her family. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1009 Stafford Avenue, Fredericksburg, Virginia, on September 3, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., with burial to follow at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172, at 2:00 p.m.
