

Eligio Betancourt, 77 of Spotsylvania passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012 at Mary Washington Hospital. He was a longtime Washingtonian, a high school Football All-Star at Mount Vernon High School (Alexandria, VA) and a US Army veteran. Eligio retired from The Washington Times Newspaper after 18 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Anna Maria; two sons, Eligio David Betancourt of Gilbert, AZ and Richard Allen Betancourt of Beaumont, TX; daughter, Lisa Michelle Betancourt of Ruther Glen; brother, Julio Paul Betancourt of Port Orange, FL; sister, Idalina “Edie” Jones of Dumfries; sister, Brunilda Betancourt of Richmond; sister, Lillian Wizcek of Springfield; sister, Palmira Rathgens of Cincinnati, OH; nine grandchildren, David, Carlos, Ashley, Duillaume, DaJour, Allegra, Bianca Christopher and Dakota; six Great-Grandchildren, Hailey, Kaliyah, Heaven, Isaiah, Reyse and Ayden.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 10:30 AM, with the family receiving friends two hours prior at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Internment will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
