Mary was born in Canada to British parents. She emigrated to the U.S. as a young adult and settled in Chicago, later becoming a U.S. citizen. She married and had three children. She worked for many years in the restaurant business. Mary later moved to Florida and enjoyed several years in sunny Tampa before moving to Colonial Beach to be near her daughter. She was an avid reader, a whiz with crossword puzzles, and enjoyed activities with her church. Her requested epitaph: She loved her family, her pets and her friends.
Mary is survived by her daughter Barbara Self (Marvin) of Fredericksburg, her grandson Nathan Self (Jessica), and two great-grandsons. She is also survived by sons William Haeske of Colorado and his daughter, and Richard Haeske of Illinois and his family.
A service will be held at a future date at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Colonial Beach.
