
He was born at “The River Place” in Spotsylvania County, to the late James Kay Dickinson and Elizabeth Winston Cave Dickinson. He was a 1938 graduate of Chancellor High School. In 1942 he served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Stationed in Pisa, Italy; serving in Italy, Corsica and North Africa. In 1945, he came home and in December of 1945 married his wife of 65 years, Bernice G. Dickinson. He worked for his father on his dairy farm (Maple Grove) in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s and later managed Enniskillen Farm in Stafford. He joined the DC Department of Corrections in 1965, working at facilities in both Lorton and Washington DC. He retired as a Major in 1985. He owned and operated an antique shop called B & G Antiques in Fredericksburg in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
Besides his wife, he is also survived by two sons, Phillip E Dickinson of Atlanta, GA and Kevin A Dickinson of Woodford; and various nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel on Sunday, January 9, 2011 from 4-6:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery at 1:30 PM on Monday, January 10, 2011.
