Gerlinde Elizabeth (Stephan) Hinkle (AKA Mema), 89, of Fredericksburg VA, passed away Sunday October 11, 2020 at her home in the care of her loving family.

Gerlinde was born September 5, 1931 in Germany to the late Barbara and Friedrich Stephan. In early May of 1960 Gerlinde married her late husband Jerome Kenneth Hinkle.

She is survived by 4 children (Michael Hinkle, James Hinkle, Angela Ferguson, Patricia Hinkle), 11 grandchildren (Bill Rice, Vanessa Hazzard, Lauren Hinkle, Robert Lundell, Joshua Hinkle, Victoria Hood, Danielle Ferguson, Michael Lundell, Jacob Hinkle, Kayla Lundell, and Kathryn Lundell), and 10 great-grandchildren.

For the last 3 years Gerlinde has lived with her grand-daughter Victoria Hood and her husband Kyon Hood along with their 6 children. Mema loved this family and the babies kept her young. Vicky and Kyon took great care of Mema although Mema never sat down; she was always cleaning, chasing a baby, or taking care of her plants. When Mema was close to the end, Vicky, Kyon, and Vanessa took amazing care of her, keeping her comfortable, happy, and smiling until the very end. She knew her time was near but never let that bring down her spirits. She is now with Jesus and happier than ever.

Linde was a sister to me, not an in-law. What a beautiful person she was. I met her when I was a young girl about the age of 7or 8. She quickly became my friend! And I just loved her accent! I'd never met anyone from another country so it was exciting. Then until I became an adult, I didn't get to see her much, because we lived too far apart. But as an adult, I traveled to her families' home in Oftersheim, Germany. We had a fun time with her niece, Angelika, and family. A lot of the Christmas decorations on my Christmas tree is one's she helped me pick out while on one of our shopping trips in Germany. We both loved Christmas and lace.
My brother, Jerome, was lucky to have found her while stationed in Frankfort. My husband, Dean, loved her as much as I did. "Linde, I know you are happy with Jesus! I will look for you at Jesus feet when I arrive in Heaven! "

GERLINDE (linda) was always the most gracious, loving, and beautiful lady in my memories....my sister (in-law) and treasured
friend. Always caring, always faithful. I have missed seeing her in
these passing years, but always will carry her in my heart.

My prayers and loving thoughts to the children, grands, and great-
grands. I am so thankful for all the loving care you gave to, and
received from, her. I believe she is at peace and rest with the Lord
in that better world, and I pray we will ALL be ready to join her when Jesus comes to gather His believing children to Heaven with Him. Unending love to you all.....(aunt lou)
