her parents by her side, at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center due to complications of end
stage renal disease.
Hattie was born March 2, 1994, at San Diego Naval Medical Center, San Diego, CA to Ruben J
& Barbara J Garza. She was diagnosed shortly after birth as the 23rd documented case
worldwide with Chromosome 10-p13, a partial deletion of the chromosome. The prognosis of
life was that of only 7 years. In 2020, Johns Hopkins Medical Center updated the diagnosis as
Chromosome 10p15.3p14, with a similar known case of a 17 year life span. Hattie’s will and
grace is a testament to living to 28.
Hattie enjoyed fishing outings, freeway driving, restaurants, YouTube videos on her iPad,
spending time with family, friends, and shopping.
Hattie was such a gentle and loving girl. She had an amazing sense of humor. Her presence
left a lasting effect on people who met her. Her will to live in the presence of her complex
health conditions is an example for all. She was full of grace and love, up to her final moments.
Hattie leaves her parents, Ben and Barbie, friends and numerous family members in the
southwest.
A mass will be held Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 11:00 am, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church,
Fredericksburg VA. Hattie will be laid to rest in her parent’s hometown of Clifton AZ.
The family welcomes all who cared for Hattie through the years to join them for the mass.
