Helen Riley Gill

Born and raised in Woodstock, Virginia, in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Helen carried with her the kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit that defined her throughout her life.

Helen was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. In her earlier years, she was a wonderful homemaker who created a loving and welcoming home for her family. She later became an Avon representative for many years before beginning a long and dedicated career at Mary Washington Hospital, where she worked until her retirement.

Helen was a gentle and kind person who loved and cared for her family deeply. She was known for her compassion, quiet strength, and willingness to always put others first. Her love and kindness touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.

For the past three years, Helen made her home at Hughes Home Riverhouse, where she developed many special friendships. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers and staff at Hughes Home for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they provided. Their support and dedication brought great comfort to Helen and her family.

Helen is survived by her son, Michael Riley (Sharon); her daughter, Michelle Scott (Paul); her beloved grandson, Ryan Scott (Shelby); her brother, Johnny Ryman; her sisters, Anna Lea Ryman, Judy Seal (Harold), and Dorothy Seal; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hazel Ryman; her sisters, Evelyn Reynolds and Betty Middleton; her brothers-in-law, Paul Reynolds and Harry Middleton; and her sister-in-law, Patsy Ryman.

Helen’s gentle nature, generous heart, and unconditional love will be remembered always. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and devotion to family that will continue to live on through those who loved her.

A private graveside service will be held for immediate family.
