The good do not all die young, but they all go too soon, leaving us stunned and bereft.  Jerry Moore smiled and greeted everyone, regardless of age, gender, race, creed or political persuasion, with encouraging warmth.  Unfailingly courteous, kind and generous, he was truly a friend to all, whether two or four-footed.  Every morning he and Don Gill opened the Fredericksburg dog park, then without announcement or complaint, Jerry walked the perimeter picking up waste from the previous day that less responsible owners had left.  (As Don once noted, Jerry never shied from work that needed doing.)
At the moment he died of an infection in Mary Washington Hospital, his beloved Irish wolfhound Katie, at home, howled to heaven, sounding our misery.
What will remain in the hearts and minds of those fortunate to have known him is the example he set for humane behavior, a role model even unto the seventh generation.  With deepest appreciation and condolences to Pat, Katie and their extended family.

I am so grateful for the deep affection and love that Jerry always showed me, my husband Michael, my children Ben and Clara, and - of course - my dog Laya, who doesn't care much for most people but who adored this wonderful man.  I am so lucky to have known Jerry even a little, and to be part of his circle of friends who gathered in the morning at the dog park to enjoy one another's company, taking in the simple pleasures of every day we shared. 
 
May his memory be a blessing to his family and friends whose hearts are heavy now.

The Dolbys miss Jerry. We will always remember his friendliness and engaging conversation. He always extended a warm and heartfelt welcome to all Fredericksburg Dog Park newcomers, whether they had two legs or four. Blaise was his biggest fan! -Love, The Dolbys

I usually don't connect with older people.  However, the very day I met Jerry at the dog park, there was an instant connection that, over time, became a bond. Jerry was the most polite gentleman and his intense love and devotion for dogs of any kind was unsurpassed. I will miss him deeply and I feel that I've learned so much from him, over the years, by observing his silent and gentle ways.  Jerry, you lit up the air around you and I can only hope to have had some of your zest for life and your love of all things four-legged and and furry. You were a good man that will never be forgotten, but your spirit will carry on in those that were fortunate to have been a part of your life.  I feel so lucky to have been able to share a little of that, with you and Katie.  My heartfelt sympathies to you, Pat. I am here if you want or need anything at all. Mr. Moore was a friend to our Department, our staff, and the Fredericksburg Dog Park and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends (human and canine).

I loved this man!  I will always be thankful for our friendship and the fact that he called me his buddy.  We shared many wonderful times walking Katie and Gabbie and having meals together.  We would meet 
 almost every day at the park with our canine buddies and enjoyed just sitting and talking and solving the world's problems.  Those problems will not be solved until all men are like Jerry Moore.  I loved this man!  Until we meet again dear friend.  our thoughts and prayers are with you dear Pat

Jerry.  A true gentleman. A kind and loving man with a heart so big his body could barely contain it.  An opener of car doors and the helper on of ladies coats. Our  baseball, hamburger and park sitting buddy. How fortunate we are to have been a part of your life. 
To say that you will be missed just isn't enough.  We love you, our hero and best pal. Thank you for being a friend and teaching us the beauty of just sitting and being still and savoring the bird song.   Pennie and Jack

Jerry has been the best of friends to us.  My dogs, Angus and Izzy, lit up every time Jerry walked through the door.  Meghan and I send our love Jerry.

When Jerry and Katie first walked into my shop, they made quite an impression on me, as they tended to do wherever they went. When I sold my shop, I couldn't give them up....so we sat on their back porch to groom Katie. Those are some of my favorite memories and I will cherish them always. He certainly left an impression....on our hearts. You will be greatly missed, sir. We love you. Sending strength and peace to you, Pat. We shall continue the tradition, as I have come to adore you as well and love our time together.

I worked for many people in my retail career, Mr. Moore you were the best. We remained friends long after we both left the workforce. I looked forward to our lunch gatherings and will miss them.
