

He was born on May 20, 1944, in Collingswood, New Jersey, the son of the late Robert C. and Anna Mae (Gardner) Kent. He began his work career at Sickles Food Center. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1971. He later continued his career with SCM Corporation and as a Supervisor of Equipment Repair for the Sergeant At Arms, United States Senate, where he retired in 1996.
Throughout Joe’s career, he received many awards from Exxon Office Systems, the District of Columbia, SCM Corporation, Rockhurst College of Continuing Education Center, and the Sergeant At Arms, United States Senate.
Joe was an avid fan of Classical Country Music, which could be heard throughout his home, while spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly; brother Robert (Bobby); sister Kathleen (Kathy) Sheahan; grandson James (Jimmy) Kent; brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Belluce; sister-in-laws Diane Kent and Ronni Kent; nieces Jannine Parisi and Joanne Brophy.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Katherine Wilson; two daughters, Tammy Murphy and Teresa Love; two sisters, Nancy Belluce and Connie Tolarico (Joe); two brothers, Michael (Barbara) and Stephen; brother-in-law Chuck Ziegler; five grandchildren, Stephanie Kent, Stephen Dean, Joseph (Joey) Kent III, Jacob and Kyle Love; three great grandchildren, Layla Parrish, Kane and Ivy Meyers. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Services, 1621 Emancipation Highway. The family will receive family/friends from 10:00am–12:00pm with the service beginning at 12:00pm. Interment will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico (1824 Joplin Road, Triangle, Va). Everyone is welcome to attend a reception at Roma’s Italian Restaurant & Pizza, 114 W. Broadus Avenue, Bowling Green, Va.
Joe’s life was one of dedication and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
