

Julian was born in Woodford, VA to Susie and Julian Gayle, Sr. He was a longtime resident of the Fredericksburg area. After graduating from Spotsylvania High School in 1950, he proudly served as a Marine in support of the occupation forces after WWII. Post service, he began a long and distinguished career at Montgomery Ward & Co. Julian retired as Manager of the Major Appliances Department at the Spotsylvania Mall store in 1994. An avid and skilled golfer, he was an active member of the Fredericksburg Country Club from September 16, 1966 to April 30, 2006. He was also a proud lifetime member of the Fredericksburg Elks Lodge 875. Julian was blessed with dear friends and good times.
His family will miss his presence. Julian always had a lively conversation, a laugh, and a word of wisdom or encouragement for us. Julian is survived by his wife of 39 years, Connie T. Gayle, of Fredericksburg VA, two sons, David (Linda) and Dean Gayle, of Fredericksburg, VA, sister Darlene Jenkins (Paul) of Fredericksburg, VA, and many nieces and nephews. Our cherished Husband, Dad, Stepdad, Pop, Brother, and Friend will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wilson and Howard Gayle, and sister Evelyn Miller. Julian’s stepdaughters, Jill Chapman Soyka (Mark) and Joanna Chapman (Bill Jackling) will miss him dearly, as will his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A service will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at 1pm at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, VA. Visitation starts at 12 pm. The family appreciates prayers and donations to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in his memory.
