

Kathlene Mary (Carlsen) Gaddy, 82, of Fredericksburg, VA, entered into rest on August 1 after a long and courageous battle with dementia. In honoring her request, a private cremation will take place later.
She was born in Seattle Washington on December 24, 1943. Her Dad retired in Norfolk, VA after serving 21years in the U.S. Navy.
She worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. in the Hub. She started in high school and after graduating from Maury High School in Norfolk, VA, remained with Sears until her disability.
She, was deeply involved in church activities, working with children (bus ministry), and teaching. She loved English, especially writing in calligraphy, as she took many classes over the years; also involved in the Manatee Club as she cared deeply about protecting Florida’s wildlife.
She met her husband of almost 65 years, in Norfolk, VA; they were married in Asheville, NC. She was a devoted mother and wife and true friend to many. Though her illness changed her in her final years, the impact of her love and kindness remains unchanged.
She always reminded the family that she was “cheated” on birthdays and Christmas, since her birthday was December 24, Christmas 25, and anniversary 27.
Also surviving is a brother, and niece. who reside in Ohio.
