Leselie Ann Hamilton was born in Trinidad on November 6, 1966 and peacefully passed away on May 24, 2020 at the young age of 53. Lovingly known as Annie, she was the only daughter of Ivy Piper and John Saul. Annie was John’s only child, and he adored her until his unfortunate death in a car crash in 1977. Annie had a close relationship with her mother, who made it possible for Annie to move to the US in 1985. Her mother supported and loved her unconditionally up until her passing in 1989.
When she came to the US in 1985, Annie quickly adapted to a new way of life. Her first job was at Brenner’s Bakery in Arlington where she met her husband-to-be, who worked a few doors away. She met Joel Hamilton in 1988, and after a short period, they fell in love and got married on August 11, 1990. They had a loving relationship and was of great support to each other. At the time of her death, they were married for 30 years. They have three beautiful children, Amanda, Angus and Argent. She had a very special place in her heart for all her children and worked hard to build a home for her family. Annie was a very strong and loving person, who demonstrated her love of life and family through kindness and by maintaining a positive attitude. She had a way with words that would draw you into great conversations and make you laugh and feel special. Annie made a lot of friends through the years including with her colleagues at Mary Washington Hospital and Walmart in Fredericksburg, VA. People were drawn to her because of her beautiful smile and warm personality. She was also very creative and loved to sew and knit. She worked with Joel on special projects to turn ordinary items into beautiful art pieces; a reflection on how she viewed life.
In the last five years, she traveled to Trinidad twice where she was able to reconnect with family there. Going back to the island where she was born and raised brought peace and joy to her and gave family members an opportunity to make lasting memories. Annie was Ivy’s youngest and is survived by four brothers Nathaniel Geoffrey, Keith Roland, Sobers Learie and Bishop Terry Piper and their spouses, all of whom reside in Trinidad. She is also survived by her mother’s only surviving sibling, Alexander F. Piper, Sr., of Florida, and many cousins nieces and nephews in Trinidad, Guyana and the US, including Virginia, Maryland, Colorado, Florida, New York and Utah.
Unfortunately, she never got the chance to visit Guyana where her father was born, but she had the opportunity to get to know and build a relationship with her cousin Roseann Saul, of New York, and her father’s only surviving brother, Eustace Saul, of Canada.
Annie you are loved by many and will be greatly missed.
"What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget."
