Lillian Josephine Hines, née Pancione, passed away peacefully at her home on August 10, 2025, at the age of 92, after a long, courageous battle with a rarely diagnosed brain disease: Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy (CAA).
Lillian was born on June 28, 1933, in Augusta, West Virginia, and lived there until joining her career- military husband, Arthur Hines. Together, and sometimes separated by duty, they built a life filled with love and devotion to family. Lillian not only raised her two children, but also took in family and friends, and cared for them as well.
Lillian was known as an energetic saleswoman who started selling Stanley Home Products, then furniture, and ultimately real estate, and was frequently the top producer of whatever she did. Whatever she did, she was always competitive with the best. She made friends easily wherever she went, and she went everywhere.
She was an excellent cook, loved to entertain friends and family, and had an unwavering faith in God. She touched the lives of everyone she met, and leaves a legacy of compassion and resilience.
She is survived by her sons, Arthur and Charles, and their spouses, Marlene and Diane, granddaughter Carina, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur Hines; her father Zopito Pancione; mother Edna Mentzer Pancione; sister Ann Marie Pancione Ruddy; and brothers Joe Pancione and George Pancione; brother-in-law Harry Ruddy; and sisters-in-law Tennel Pancione and Naomi Pancione.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A funeral will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home, 1621 Emancipation Hwy., Fredericksburg, VA 22401. The schedule is 9:30 – Visitation, 10:30—Service, and 12:30--burial at Quantico National Cemetery.
Special thanks go out to Lil’s friend Carolyn, her first and longest caregiver who was there from the beginning of Lil’s illness to the end; and new friends Linda, Susan, and Gail, who were all so very helpful in the last chapter of Lil’s Book of Life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to their local church.
