May 6, 1938 – September 5, 2023
IN THE CARE OF
Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service
Lois Ann Creighton, born in St. Louis, Missouri – beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend – entered her eternal home at the age of 85 on September 5, 2023. Lois was the oldest of five daughters of Walter and Anita Gieselman. As a child of a Lutheran Pastor, she moved around the Midwest and was even taught by her father in a one room schoolhouse. After graduating from Union High School, she earned her Nursing diploma from Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Lois married Robert A. Honold of Beaufort, Missouri in 1959. The military and then a government job brought Bob and Lois to Alexandria, Virginia where they raised three children in the close-knit community of Hayfield Farms. She enjoyed the neighborhood Memorial and Labor Day picnics, New Year’s Eve progressive dinners and summer performances at Wolf Trap. Because a Christian education was very important to Lois, her children attended Immanual Lutheran School. She later became a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where all three of her children were married. An active member in many areas of the church, she especially loved playing in the handbell choir.
After raising her family, Lois reentered the workforce as an assistant to an Optometrist and then as a Contracts Administrator for the U.S. government.
Next to her love of Christ and family, sewing and quilting were lifelong passions. Lois created many mother-daughter outfits and later designed appliqué pillows. She sewed the wedding dress of her oldest daughter, Pamela, and all seven bridesmaid dresses for her youngest daughter, Joan. She hemmed every pair of her son Paul’s pants for the “perfect fit.” All of her quilts were stitched with love and now belong to family members across the country.
After retiring, Lois moved to Oviedo, Florida where she met her second husband, Gale O. Creighton. On their first date, Gale brought Lois red roses from his garden and captured her heart. On August 3, 2002, in the presence of their family and friends, they were married at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Gale and Lois were blessed with a very special marriage. They enjoyed international trips with their St. Luke’s friends, outings to New Smyrna Beach and Sunday visits to IHOP after church (where the staff affectionately knew Lois by name).
She was so fortunate to have four kind and caring sisters whose support and friendship were constants throughout her life. The Gieselman family reunions were times of laughter and love, perfect for sharing recipes and homemade cookies, worshipping together, playing card games and an occasional jump in the pool.
Lois treasured every moment with her grandchildren, whether watching baseball and soccer games, attending school musicals and concerts or teaching them how to cross stitch. In May of 2019, she moved back to Virginia, closer to her daughter, Pamela. Although Parkinson’s limited her physical abilities, she remained steadfast in her Christian faith and love and devotion for her family. She will be truly missed, but is now at peace, resting in the arms of Jesus.
Lois is preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 17 years, Gale O. Creighton; her parents, Walter and Anita Gieselman, her sister Miriam and her great nephew Jakob Shafferkoetter. She is survived by four loving sisters, Ruth, Mary, Angela and Phyllis; her devoted children Paul (Nancy) Honold, Pamela (Steve) Grimes and Joan (John) Paciga; her cherished grandchildren, Erin, Matthew, Andrew, Lindsay, John and Jill; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo, Florida with interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish to make a donation in Lois’ name, her family suggests St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with a designation to the Music Concert Series. Address: 2021 W. State Road 426, Oviedo, FL 32765.
