Just this evening an acquaintance mentioned to me that Lois had passed away. I was so sad to hear this. I hadn’t seen Lois in years, but remember her with great fondness. Like many others, I took riding lessons at Tamarack Stables in Lorton back in the 80s when I was in my 20s. I remember when I was pregnant and no longer felt safe riding I asked Lois if she could give me something to do from the ground. Amazingly, she asked me to teach a beginners riding class. I was probably terrible at it, but she was so kind and I really appreciated her letting me do that. I continued to ride at Tamarack Stables until we moved to Loudoun County. Lois and I reconnected in the 90s some time afte she moved to Fredericksburg. She invited me and my sister out to ride with her and we had a lovely day. She has touched a lot of lives. I will not forget her and will think of her riding in heaven with her many horses.

I am sorry to learn that we lost a bright light in the world.  Lois was my mentor and friend.  I spent my teen years at the original Tamarack learning the value of hard work cleaning stalls, digging post holes, and teaching riding lessons.  I saved enough to buy my own horse and pay for its board. I remember working on the woodwork of the original house, then relaxing playing cards.  We were terrorized by an enormous goat, Gruff, who would steal our lunches. Before the Andalusians, Bear and Koko, were the foundation horses. The horse "trailer" was a wooden frame on a pickup bed. Once Lois went away for a weekend(a rare event) and I was in charge of loading hay into the loft...almost got heat stroke! So many wonderful memories and a role model that set a message of hard work and self reliance.

My sympathy and prayers are being offered for dear Lois. 
We grew up in homes across from one another and often enjoyed petting and riding the horses of another neighbor.  Though Lois was several years older than myself, she was a best friend of an older sister and I marveled at her zest for life and high energy.  I was blessed to see her a couple years ago at the funeral of her brother Gene. May she be experiencing the green pastures of eternity with those loved ones who had gone before her.

All the wonderful experiences that I could express here would definitely exceed the maximum space allowed so I'm sending loving thoughts and prayers as Lois now lives her pain free life with the Lord and is awaiting the eternal union of her family and of the countless people whose lives she has touch! ... and not, of course, forgetting the countless "critters" who also visited and experienced her love as they roamed Tamarack, Cooper being one of them!

My fondest memory of Aunt Lois was the week I spent at Tamarack stables when I was 14 years old with my younger cousin Yvonne. I couldn’t believe how many horses were on the property.  I was so excited to learn how to ride a horse and Aunt Lois promised me she would teach me that summer. Every evening after all the chores were done, she taught me how to ride English style on her beautiful horses. It was not just a vacation for me that week. Aunt Lois put me to work every day. I learned how to bale hay and in the process ended up with ticks in my long hair. I remember Aunt Lois burning them out with her cigarette that night. Lol! I learned how to feed and water the horses and clean out the stalls. I also worked in the garden and helped with dinner. We had a fun day at the beach mid week. I remember Aunt Lois going to the “dump” one day and coming back with a cool T-shirt. I wanted to go too but she said it was too dangerous. I learned a great deal that week that I spent with Aunt Lois and her family.  It helped mold me into the hard working mature person I am today. Thank you Aunt Lois! I met Lois several years ago & immediately was drawn to her
kindness, compassion, &sincerity. Her focus was God,family/her critters and country.      
Lois said it like it was.She didn't hold back on what you needed to hear.She loved life to the fullest and took both the good and the not so good in stride.
What can I say? In Lois we found a true friend! Her friendship was very special! I miss you and will forever hold you close in my heart ❤...just as I'm sure God now holds you in the palm of His hands!
