Lydie Mukeshimana

She was born in Rwanda and her father was Pastor Eleazzar Semutwa and her mother was Asinath Kamatamu (both deceased).

She was the 7th born from a family of 11 children.

She was predeceased by her husband, Azarie Barema who passed away in 2005.

Lydie was a stay at home mom who raised her 6 children, several nephews, nieces, foster children and children of their friends.

She is survived by her 4 children: Zitoni Murenzi (Honore), Elvanie Barema (Ignace), Edouard Barema (Gaju), and Sanyo Barema (Jean Louis). She lost 2 children (Genevieve and Gerard Barema).

Lydie also leaves behind 8 grandchildren: Leila Murenzi, Jesse Murenzi (Desirae), Moses Murenzi, Jordan Shamukiga, Gael Barema, Johann Barema, Tesi Barema and Nathan Mbabazi Maridadi; and 2 great grand children: Levi Murenzi and Josiah Murenzi.

In addition, she is leaving behind her loving 3 sisters: Esther Nyirahabimana(Abia), Rachel Mutumwinka and Madeleine Mukarusanga.

She is also leaving behind many nephews, nieces and several friends in 5 continents.

Lydie was someone who connected with people very easily and was a faithful friend. She was called the ambassador of the family because she was always visiting people who were sick, assisting the poor and being with those who were mourning.

She will be remembered for her contagious laughter and her compassion for others. Lydie truly loved God and was very excited to know that she will spend eternity with Jesus Christ.

A visitation for Lydie will be held Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 11:00am -12:00pm at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel with her funeral service starting at 12:00pm

Her interment will occur Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 3:00pm at National Funeral Home & National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Hwy., Falls Church, VA.
