She was born on September 21, 1940, in Toccopola, Mississippi, to the late Carl Phillips and Hattie Mae “Peggy” (Allen) Rogers.
Micki was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Earl Bayne.
Her survivors include her daughter, Amy Elizabeth Bayne, and Amy’s wife, Leah Baskett; and her granddaughter, Kimberly Jenerette.
Growing up near Oxford, Mississippi, and in Memphis, Tennessee, Micki maintained close relationships with Peggy’s tight-knit family, especially Peggy’s sisters—Pearl, Virginia, and Opal. Micki valued her relationships with Peggy’s brothers and their wives—Adron and his wife, Myrtle; Buck and his wife, Jean; and J.W. and his wife, Polly. These aunts and uncles, along with a plethora of sibling-like cousins, loved Micki as she grew up and gave her much comfort throughout her life. She held them dear.
While growing up in Memphis, Micki attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, where she often admitted with a wink that she was a class clown. She enjoyed the city’s rich local music scene of blues, Motown, and rock and roll, and danced every chance she got at local school dances and on the local dance show Dance Party. She even met Elvis a couple of times and was invited to Graceland while dating a member of his entourage in Memphis. Micki loved life, grabbing every opportunity to sing, dance, and have fun.
Most of Micki’s adult life was spent in Northern Virginia, where she met her husband, Earl Bayne, and had her only child, Amy Bayne—both of whom she often called “the best things that ever happened to me.” NOVA was a place of beginnings, where she built lifelong friendships with Judy and Dusty Rhodes, Diana and John Bozza, and Maryann and Tom Snyder. In NOVA, Micki was proud of her work with the federal government, various telecommunications firms, and Gannett/USA Today. She and Earl built a beautiful life there.
Micki spent the final third of her life in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Looking for a slower pace, she and Earl moved here after his cancer diagnosis in 1997. While she missed her home in NOVA, Micki found comfort and friendship here. Amy moved here with her daughter, Kim, in 1998, and Micki became like a second mother to Kim; she loved her so. It is here that Micki formed another close friendship with Nancy Henshaw, her weekly lunch buddy at Primavera for over two decades. After Earl’s death in 2000, Micki brought Peggy up to Fredericksburg and valued the decade they spent together here. In 2020, Micki gained a second daughter when Amy married Leah Baskett—a relationship that proved to be dear to her in recent years.
Micki truly lived a full life, not free from challenges and pain, but richer for an abundance of love and a wealth of friendship. She promised she and Earl would be watching over all of us until we meet again.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Highway, Fredericksburg, VA, with a viewing held one hour prior.
