Known by many names—Mom, Grandma, Sugar, Terry, and Sister—Margaret touched countless lives with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rena Simpson and Gilbert McDonald, her daughter, Doreen L. Thomas, and her son, Gary C. Thomas and Nephew, Robbie McDonald
Margaret leaves behind a loving and devoted family: Her son, Curtis Thomas, and his wife, Susan Thomas, of St. Augustine, FL. Her grandson, Derek Saul, and his wife, Jennifer Saul, of Spotsylvania, VA. Her grandson, Mark Thomas, and his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Thomas, of Camden, SC. Her great-grandchildren: Kalib Saul (Madi) of Spotsylvania, VA, Derek "DJ" Saul (Kassidy) of Bumpass, VA, and Kaitlyn, Kirsten, Kristopher, and Konner, all of Camden, SC. Margaret spent her last five years in Spotsylvania, where she found home surrounded by love and care from her granddaughter, Jennifer. Margaret was truly the "Queen" of the family, deeply adored and respected by all who knew her.
Margaret adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She found joy in cooking family dinners and cherished hearing stories about her great-grandchildren’s activities, including baseball, softball, and horseback riding. She was incredibly proud of her great-grandchildren and all of their success at such a young age.
She loved gardening, antiques, and the beauty of nature. Her strong and independent spirit was an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Maggie loved birds and took delight in the beautiful ones her son and daughter-in-law brought back from their trips around the world. She was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first great-great-grandson, due in May, and was excited to name him in her final days.
Margaret spent part of her career working for the Red Cross, a reflection of her deep compassion for others.
We ask that any donations in Margaret’s memory be made to Mary Washington Hospice in Fredericksburg, VA. There will be no service at this time.
Margaret was loved by many and, in return, loved everyone she met. Please keep her family in your prayers during this time of great loss.
