Mary was born April 14, 1946 in Dobbs Ferry, New York to James and Mary Mangan.
She was raised in Parkchester, Bronx, New York and attended St. Raymond’s Academy, then received her Nursing Education at The University of the State of New York.
She married in 1968 to Raymond D’Amato and was sister to Alice Roerig; mother to Dennis D’Amato and Jacqueline Klioze of Fairfax; and stepmother to Carrie Coppinger of Surry, England. She also leaves the pride and joy of her life, her grandchildren, Brendan and Rose D’Amato, Taylor and Ryan Klioze, and Danielle and Luke Coppinger.
She worked as a pediatric nurse at Westchester Square Hospital in New York and then for 28 years at Leewood Nursing Home as Director of Adult Care and Assisted Living.
Her dry sense of humor, her heartwarming smile, and her vivid blue eyes that danced like sparkling diamonds were a beacon of joy, leaving a lasting impression on countless people through each chapter of her life.
Dignity, selflessness, caring and warmth are how family, strangers, and her closest friends described her. However, nothing fulfilled her more than serving and caring for her Lord, Our Blessed Mother, St. Anthony her patron Saint, her children, husband, parents and extended family members. Her entire life was a living sonnet of sacrificial love that will never be forgotten, and she will be missed in a way that words cannot express.
In lieu of flowers, and for those wishing to honor Mary’s lifetime of giving and service to others, the family suggest contributions to the Cancer Research Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am on Friday, June 8, 2018 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Fredericksburg. Interment will follow at St. Mary of Sorrows Cemetery in Fairfax.
